The greenfield airport constructed under the supervision of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, was expected to start functioning by the end of 2024. This public-private partnership airport project of the Uttar Pradesh Government is going to turn out to be one of India’s largest airports after its completion. Hence, the airport is being constructed in phases on 5,000 hectares of land.
The first phase will feature a single runway and a terminal building to manage 12 million passengers annually. The rest of the phases have plans for expansion, including more runways and terminals, ultimately targeting 70 million passengers annually.
